The Wild Nettle Display

Morning all,

Well, it’s from cobwebs last week to wild flowers this week.

On Saturday there was the annual flower show which was held in the meadow. There were some magnificent displays created by the flower fairies – and then there were those created by the frog community. Some of them were magnificent, some were colourful, some were dull and some were – well, how would you describe them? Interesting, unique, I guess,  depending on you point of view, of course.

You see, froglettes, I had this frog-tastic idea of making a frog’s head out of, well, wild flowers. I used nettles for the green colour and they were right prickly characters to deal with, they have a good sting too, forget-me-nots for the eyes, poppies for the mouth and daisies for the teeth. I put milk maids and buttercups around the bottom of my display for colour and to, well, break up the green a little bit.

However, did I win a prize? Sadly, not this year. The judges left a note for me saying mine was “an interesting and inventive idea. However, on this occasion, it was rather messily put together. Probably best to not use stinging nettles as they rather stole the display from the other flowers that I had used.”

They flopped everywhere too over everything. If I tied them to sticks to make them look straight, they made me look like a green, spiky hedgehog so leaving them floppy was easier and more like me!

Still, I am proud of what I did and of my inventiveness too.

‘Till next time, froglettes,

E
