Morning all,
Last Sunday was a very, very foggy day which was great for a spot of fishing. So, off I went in my coracle onto the river to see what I could find. It was kind of eerie being out on the river on my own! The river bank and trees appeared out of the mist like ghosts and it was so quiet all around me. All the animals that I normally see seemed to have disappeared.
Once I was in the middle of the river, I got out my fishing rod to see what I could find. I caught a few fish and then my fishing line caught on something. I tried to reel it in like I had done with the fish but it was heavy and pulled at the line. Still, I persisted and, slowly, I could feel whatever it was coming up through the water and then it appeared. A dark brown wooden box covered in seaweed.
I put it gently onto the floor of the coracle and and cleared all the seaweed off it. There was a rusty key in the lock which refused to turn when I tried. I put the box on its side and tapped the water out of it and then tried again. Slowly, the key turned in the lock and with a little more persuasion, I was able to open the box.
Inside, there were some gold and silver coins of different sizes. I rubbed the dirt off a couple of the coins and saw the figure of someone engraved on one side of the coin and a number (their value?) on the other side. Where they had come from, I don’t know, and there was nothing in the box saying who they might have belonged to. A bit of a mystery.
It was still very foggy as I rowed back to the harbour with the wooden box and my fish and it was very quiet all around me. I was starting to feel like I was living on another planet!
See ya later,
E
